Review of English 100

Ø  If your reading and writing practices have changed since this class, how have they been modified because of English 100? The way I write sentences has changed alot for me since I have took this class, because the way i was taught the right way on how not to ramble on about things. I should just find the point of the topic and write about it.
Ø  How have you become a better reader and/or writer? I have became a better reader because I have gottn alot of assignments for me to read and write about. My writing has improved because of the reading i do. It really helps when i put my on experiences in favor with the facts from the story.
Ø  How has the blog encouraged you to write more thoroughly or has it not? The bolg is just like writing a paper, there is no spell check or anything because it's your on thoughts about things. It's the way you want to talk about things. It makes you more comfortable with yourself on speaking out, instead of someone telling you to write a certain way.
Ø  What did you like about having a blog in a reading and writing course? Like I was saying before it's your on thoughts about things and no one can tell you it;s wrong, Your own opinion about things also. It's like a personal journaland for the females it can be a dairy just to express your thoughts.
Ø  How is the blog similar to a journal? How is it different from a traditional journal? Its similar to a journal because There's no spell check or anything. It can be in your words and theres nothing you have to do to change it.
Ø  What kind of experience have you had for English 100? Please explain. I have had some great experiences with this clas. It has helped me out alot with  things. On what is a summary, analysis, and qoutes. I alreadfy knew those but how I can use them in different ways. And also where to use these certain things in a paper to make it come out alot better.
Ø  What would you like to see change with this class including the smaller writing assignments and/or the task papers? I believe The only thing that was a downfall was the labs. There was really no help with it. I really learn all of the techniques in class, Because you know different teachers might want you to write there way, and that' can be a bit confusing. One teacher teaching me how to write is enough for me.

The Lonely, Good Company of Books - Richard Rodriguez

My relationship with books has been on and off, I would read a book and like it for myself but when it's required that i read them i just shut down and don't read anything anymore. I would only read books that came in a series. I remember last year in my senior year of high school, started back reading again for myself because I saw this seies of books that had to do with the inner city and it was about high school also. It talked about everyday life for these kids as far as bullying, family problems, and falling in love for the first time in high school. I believe what had attracted me to these books was that it reflects my life and everything that i had went through in my earlier years of high school. I believe i would read more if more books had to do with my current life because that realloy attracts me. Once i read that first book i had to keep going back to get the next chapter then the next chapter. I don't dislike reading i just perfer reading material that deals with everyday life. Like some of these stories in this college writing book really stands out to me because it deals wwith current issues, opinions that people make like one of my favorite stories, Botstein when he talks about teen-agers try adulthood. I saw that out of all nof the stories this year the class was very opinionated about that topic. Some was for it oters were not, but that's very interesting that books or stories can make you think even more deeper about things than what its said right there in print. They make you think outside of the box.

What story reminds me of education?

The story that i will be talking about is about my past education experiences in high school. I really had a hard time shifing from one school to another. I grew up in an urban community down in Kansas City, MO, it wasn't the best place to live because education wasn't the only thing you had to worry about getting done. At the end of the day we really had alot of family problems which there was having to have somthing to eat for that night. we would somtimes have to miss school because our mother would be sick. And on top of that when we did go to school the educatin was not gooat all. We never had homework or anything, if we was just to show up we would pass the class. All the teachers wanted was for us to be there so they can get the funding that they want. Then my whole life changed so fast. Soon as i moved away from my mothers house i went to go live with my sister. We moved to the northern part of Missouri and had to change schools. We had to move because it had gotten so bad that we didn't have anybody or anything to go to because we lost the house. When it was our first day of school, it was crazy because it was so many students there i was shocked that i couldn't believe that i was here. then when it was class time for class i was so lost by the end of the day. I realized that i didnt know any of this material that they were covering. I felt so far behind in everything, this was going to be a beginning of a long year.

Fredrick Douglas - Qusetions for Reflection and Writing

Fredrick Douglas experience with trying to learn how to read and write were alot worse than what we have to go through now. We should be greatful for what we have now because really if it wasnt for him we would have the things that we have today. Him risking his life and families life just to learn is the best thing that could have happen to any of us. Now and days we have the freedom to learn our material and we just throw it away. People died for our rights and it's like we don't even care about them. We have the privledge to be whatever we want to be and that's a great accomplishment. Just to not only think that he risked his life but he also could have risked the life of the owners wife because she was the one sneeking him around to tecah him how to read and write. So he got him self a little help from a brave white person that knew somthing was wrong but could not do anything about it. but she did what all she could do, and from then on he took it in his own hands to leave and take his people with him. We now have poeple to help us all around and we should take advantage of the situation. We have a great education system compared to him. he only got to learn from just a random person that could only teach him what she knew.

Discuss Experiences with Reading and Writng

Before this Class, what did you anticipate? before i came to Missouri Western I was unsure about how my college life would go. I always thought it would be to hard and I would never get through my process as being a student and I would just fold up and leave because that's all I did in high school. It being hard in high school I didn't think it was the right thing for me to come to a university. I would just start out in community college first. Especially in english because I never really had that much help in that area because of the way my teachers treated me.I was the only black person in my class. He didnt seem to care about my problems because I was less to him than the others in the class. So coming here was a challenge not thinking i was going to do well because of my past experience. I was unsure of me knowing the way to truely format a paper and how to get good ideas to get a good start to a new idea.I knew just knew that was I not going to get a good grade. And from the other college students before me, how they were saying you will not get any help because professors are alot more busy than teachers. There would be no staying after class getting help because professors have a busy schedule just like you do.But after all my process has gotten better because alot of those things people were saying wasn't true. They have time you just have to work around their schedule.

Self Evaluation Task 3

  • What is the thesis for your paper?  Now and days students are having trouble with education and Botstein believes that we should stop school for students at a younger age so we can see what the reall world is like.

  • List the main points you make in your paper. Botstein thinks that we should cut school at a younger age. I believe that we should stay in because we are already having the problem of not getting the education that we should be getting the education to be out in the real world.

  • What was the most helpful advice you received from your peer evaluation? To correct my errors in punctuation and correct some spelling errors.

  • What was the most helpful information you received in class for your paper? When she wrote a paper of her own, that helped to show what it can be like.

  • How many drafts of this paper do you think you wrote and how/when did you write them? For example, did you compose at the keyboard, did you write lots of notes to yourself, did you pre-write or outline, did you write in small chunks of time or sit down and produce an entire draft at one sitting? I usually write three drafts on all of my papers. The one thing I do is that I write my first paper by hand to just throw out ideas then i go to type it and as i go i I change it around a little. Then i wait til my teacher gives me results to change it again.

  • What would you do differently with this paper to make it more effectively, or what did you try to do that you just don’t think you got a good handle on? Go to my teacher for more advice to get things right to get a better grade for the next one.

  • What are most pleased with about this paper? It's like the hardest paper because it's more that you have to put towards it.

Analysis - "Praise The F Word" - Mary Sherry

I believe that if students are not performing up to what they are suppose to be performing up to, they should get the grade that they are deserved to get. Now teachers are giving students chances and chances to get work turned in. That's not a good way to teach student's resposibility to get things in on time. That's like showing uo for work late if you are always late you will get fired right? So that should be the same thing for students in school if they don't get wrok turned in then they will get an F. Too many of those you will fail the class. I had to see both wyas because at first I was in a non-creadited school having the easy way out with at-risk students. It was not good because students didn't even want show up for school and lost alot of funding for that also. Then when it was time for testing the students couldn't perform even on the basic skills test. And that lost them there creditation and was on the verge of losing the building and being closed. I was so happy that we didn't get homework I thought we was being let off the hook but really it was hurting us and we didn't know it. Then i went to a suburban school where they didn't play around with students not doing there work. They didn't even get you an extra day at times. if it wasn't on time then it wasn't being excepted. I got bad grades for that because I was so use to not doing anything that I couldnt get in the mode for studying or doing homework Then I had to learn time management to get things done.

Reflection of Task 3

My focus is wanting to talk about how in school most students cannot get the same education as the other students that gets better oppurtunites and how students graduate high school not performing as well as they should be and being left behind in the real world. That's why I disagree with Botstein and his story about letting students gruduate at 16. He also says they should cut out middle school which is 6th and 7th grade and after elementary and go bstraight to high school. I disagree because if you do not let the child mature enough they will be lost in the real world not knowing which way to go. He says let kids try adulthood. There's a reason why it's a childhood and a adulthood it will not work. Right people are not being able to perform in college like they are suppose to because of this new rule that they made up. The NO Child Left Behind rule. This rule was made so that the student would be passed no matter how much they didn't get it. That's the reason why we have alot of student's that's so far behind and now Botstein is talkin about cutting it even lower so we can get out even earlier than what we are already is now it doesn't make any since. We have to extend the school years in high school so we can learn all we can. And get rid of that NCLB rule to protect oue student's better than just throwing them out in the world expecting to make a change.

Analysis - Kozol

It wasn't good for him to have to see such inequality between races because it should be that we should be all equal and recieve the same education. I would not like that I would have to teach in a school that can;t even have there own space. Multple fourth grade classes combined that makes it very hard for alot of people to focus on trying to get work done. Then it makes it even worse that the books are not even uop to date becuase they won't supply the african american school disricts with with the same oppurtunity as the whites. I guess somtimes when the books are out dated that has already been torn up and used by the whites they would give us a chance but that right there automatically puts us behind because we have to wait just to have the things. It's really not fair that blacks get treated so poorly. We just want the same education and live the lives as a regular american. When it was hatred on both sides of the race there was nothing that could be done. When Kozol said he had caught a cab to the black ommunity so he can get the school to teach, they would let him out 12 blocks before his destination and made him walk the rest of the way because it was that dangerous. It was dangerous for him to even walk also because soon ass he entered the neighborhood some one had told him to get in the car because it was not safe for him to walk those streets. When the Brown vs. Board of education came it waws suppose to unite the races together but i quote " 95-99% of the schools population was non white". So when whites figured that desegregation was happening the left the schools they were at and not even try to resolve situations.

Why Did You Decide To Come To College?

I decided to come to college because I see in this time of the United States is in a bad postion. We need more education than ever because now jobs are not looking good and the only jobs that are doin any hiring, they are only excepting the best of the best. Without education I don't beileve I will get anywhere so I'm doing this because of th epositon that we are in as Americans. It use to be times that only having a High School Diploma can get you a good paying job and people would go to college because they wanted to. Then it started to be that you had to go get your Bachelors degree in whatever field that you desired. That would help you out a whole. Now a Bachelors degree can't even guarantee you a good job. I have to prove myself with enough education background that I can go out and compete out in the real world for a job. I want to also better myself for having the knowledge to do things an give myself a shot at life. I want to take my career up to the highest level because I don't want to think when i die that I could have done something more with my life. Iwant to be able to say that I have accomplished all that I wanted to do. My plan is to Graduate with a markting degree in business because I know that will be somthing there forever. Most jobs are fading away because technology is taking away from there because or what a person can do for that job they done found away to use a robot or a computer to do it now. I picked marketing because being in the stock market will aloow me to help with people who wants best for there what thinks can make them the most money. I also want to be in Advertising because Alot of businesses are going to want to get there product or there business out there to the people so they can see it and hopefully come in and stop by. Thats when i help people do that to get there businesses off of the ground. This is the reason why i'm here because all of those dreams i want starts with education.

Let Teen-Agers Try Adulthood - Leon Botsein

Botstein is basically writing for the tennagers that is spending there 17 and 18 years of age in high school still. He believes that they should shorten the time for students should be in school  because he say that it's a waist of there living time basically and waisting there time that they can be out in the real world trying to make somthing of there self or possibly go to college to graduate early so they can get started on there careers. Ibelieve that time should more leangthen because even the time that we getting to learn as much as we can we still don't get alot when we do graduate at 17 or 18. We should be kept atleast for another year making high school five years instead of four.Because it's becoming more and more worst for colleges because they getting more students that can not achieve up to the standards of what is expected of them. Then they end up spending more years in college and having to spend more money because they don't have the credits to graduate. He structure his audience by saying let them take a shot at adulthood at an earlier stage of life. He wants to see more people get out to be able to do what they want before other things come into there life and hits them right at the time when they gradaute at 17 or 18. I don't beileve the appeal is effective because you are shortening the time even more for our students to be able to learn. It's already a debate about we should lengthen school years because the lack of education that we are recieving. We as the United States use to be first in the category of education but now we are so far behind. And it doesn't even make any since because we have more education resources to help you in every way. We should be able to achieve above standards and not shorten it even more than it already is.

Where College Fails Us - Caroline Bird

So far my experiences in college has been easy to me. Its a matter of setting your own schedule and going by it. I believe people will be successful in college if they just go by there own schedule. I also have experienced first living away fro home for the first time and I was at first nervous about it but its time to grow up and be your own person now. We are about to be grown adults and we need to start making our on decisions thats going to affect our life either in a good way or not. I am experiencing that no one is going to be holding your hand anymore. You are going to have to fend for yourself for everything in college. No one is going to give you second chamces or anything. If  you decide to miss class or do amything illegal on or off campus and you are known to be the college student there will be consequences for your actions. You know if you would mess up at home you probably would get your material things tooken away maybe car or phone but here you are condiered as an adult an you will punished as one also. People have already been taken to jail for reason that could have been avoided

I went to college because I know that there is better oppurtunites out there if you have a degree up under5 your belt. Jobs are being lost by the second and they are getting tooken away from people who does not have any educational background outside of high school. I want to become one of those people that can take there career to the top no matter how bad of a time it is in America. Because with the education that would be my ticket to keep me in the system that can never take away. So even if I do lose one job I can always find another.

3.what was the most helpful information you recieved in class for your paper? again for me to go more into detail about things but i should also talk more about what has education done for her now.

4. How many drafts of this paper do you think you wrote? and when did you write them? I believe i wrote about three drafts because i always write a hand copy first just to put down my ideas. Then when i go to the computer i change up a little. I then get my paper edited and fix it up to turn in my final draft.

My Interview Process

What questions still remain? i still have to ask how is life going for her now because its good to have the education and pass school but is it benefiting to you now.

How did it go? It went well because i got details from when she started back in high school then went on to college to try to pursue her career.

Where did you conduct it? I conduct my interview over the phone because she is in another city

What did you learn? I learnede alot, even though she is my sister and i saw alot of what she had to go through there was alot more that i did not know about.

How do you intend to transition to the writng process? I will just gather the information that i do have and write it out and use her quotes, and meet all of the requirements for the paper.

What concerns do you have? at first i had a problem with the way i was suppose to write the paper if it was suppose to be me talking in my words or talk about her like a biography

How do you expect to overcome them? it's good now because i"ve already spoken to the teacher about it now im just ready to right it out.

Becoming Educated - Barbara Charline Jordan

Education is knowledge its an act that is required for you to be succesful in life. Education means everythin to me because there has been alot of changes in this world maimly because of technology. Back then education was important, but did not need as much as you do now. You could get top jobs around the U.S with just a high school diploma. Alot of other jobs didn't even require that you need it and you could live above water. So much has changed in this world, education is needed believe it or not. Without education theres no way you could live unless you are the very few that makes an invention or somthing like that, But thats a different story. I started to see that a high school diploma was not enough, you had to go to college to be able to get the better jobs that you desired.
Now, days are becoming more and more harder for alot of people. College is starting to not be enough for us. We are in a reccesion so people with college degrees are starting to have to step down because of there jobs that has to cut back. So it's crazy how we are starting to see upper class people work for QT, McDonalds etc. Then those that only have a high school diploma have to step down to lower jobs and then students in highschool that don't have anything they get left out in this world and never have any job experience because of the world that we are in now.

5 questions that I would ask my subject

1.)What was your best experience about high school?
I would ask this question because i want to start off with highschool knowledge first.

2.) explain how did you make it through high school dispite all of the obsticles from both school and home you had to go through?
I would ask this because this is where i would know what psuhed her to get through things even at her worst of times.

3.) Was there any outside motivation that you would like to share that helped you along the way?
Motivation is a big part of a person being succesful, we all have some kind of motivation in us.

4.)What made you choose college even though it was hard for you to pass high school and why?
I want to know why did she want to continue her education.

5.) How has your life been since you took that road of extending your education?
It's important to know how did it turn out for people after having degrees under there belt

Casa: A Partial Rememberance of a Puerto Rican Childhood - Judith Ortiz Cofer

A cautionary tale that i heard in my family was between my sisters. How they talk about feminine things and how there bodies work differently than males bodies. They must of thought that i was sleep in my room because I was young and they didn’t want me to hear about what are the certain names of the parts that were on a females body. That night I was listening outside there door about how they get periods. I didn’t know what that meant until I kept ease dropping and when I started to hear bleeding and they have to stick this thing called a tampon inside of it to stop the excessive bleeding, I almost puked because i was young and I couldn’t believe what my ears were hearing. I covered my mouth trying not to make a sound because it was so nasty. That wasn't even the crazy part because afterwards they started to talk about having sex and who will be the first one out of them both to have the first child. I learned a lot that night by just ease dropping on conversations said by my sisters. It was bad because I wasn't supposed to know that kind of stuff until the time was right.

Maya Angelou - Sister Flowers

A memorable childhood experience for me was when i was in school. I was very angery at alot of things in my life, and i took it out on people at school. I was bad and didn't feel like i had to listen to anybody. At times it would get so bad that if someone would aggervate me by just touchingmy things it would tick me off to the point that i would go off and storm around and knock everything over. I would have the class very scared at times and didn't care about it. They would call my parents and i would get into trouble but i would just go back and do the same thing. They would also send me out of school for sometime and that wouldn't work.

One day it got the point that i went so far that, i had hurt myself in the action. I don't know what happen to me but that must have rung a bell in my head because from then on i started to think about how things would affect my life .

Interests on task 2

Ø  Why are you interested in these subjects? im interested in writing about my how school has been a struggle for them and how they over came the obstucles.

Ø  What makes him/her interesting and unique? Writng about my sister is unique because i was there all of the times when i knew she was struggling but she didn't kno that i knew about it since i was so younger than her. I also knew about the times when she accomplished things and she was happy for all of the hard work that has paid off.

Ø  What sort of questions would you ask and why?  I would just ask how did youy overcome those times that you were stuck and felt like u didnt have nobody?, and also questions like how does it feel to be succesful after you thought you wouldnt have made it?
Ø  What sort of problems do you think may arise for Task Two? I hope nothing goes wrong but one thing i was looking at was the way you want it worded when it's in the speakers words

Ø  What do you anticipate? Why?  I anticipate this to be very interesting because for once its not about you, you get to sit and listen about other peoples views on things.

Ø  What questions do you have for Task Two? I have no questions just want to see how it goes, thanks.

Self-Evaluation

What is the thesis for your paper? My theis is about my mother and how her action/ decisions afected my family and I. My Mother was never the best decision maker that my sisters and I had ever seen.

What was the most helpful advice you received from your peer evaluation? The most helpful thing that I got feed back from my peers was the punctuation and my grammer, but I always had big problems with that as i am learning now. That was one of the biggest things i had my teacher look for when it was evaluated.

What was the most helpful information you received in class for your paper? The most helpful information again was my punctuation and grammer but another that I remember was more detail. If i put more detail in this paper it would be a lot better.

How many drafts of this paper do you think you wrote and how/when did you write them? For example, did you compose at the keyboard, did you write lots of notes to yourself, did you pre-write or outline, did you write in small chunks of time or sit down and produce an entire draft at one sitting? One Thing about me is when I have an assignment that requires for me type a paper, I write down on hand first. I think a lot better when i am in my room in the quiet thinking things through. Like if its two page requirement then I write four pages because it evens out things.

What would you do differently with this paper to make it more effectively, or what did you try to do that you just don’t think you got a good handle on? To make this paper more effective is just follow what ny peers and instructor has asked me to do in my feed backs because they will know better than you when they are on the outside looking in.

What are most pleased with about this paper? The way that I can express my feelings towards my past and how i feel about them now that i am older and thought more about situations and why the way they happen.

"On becoming a Chicano" Richard Rodriguez

I am an African American and I have not experienced the worse of what my race has went through but I’ve seen it and just sit back and think why. All of this things were unnecessary and could have been a different way for the way we were treated and also for the other how they could have chose a different way then what was presented at the time. Most of my own kind doesn’t even know how bad our ancestors had to go through to just to make good things happen for our race. They know that they were not going to get the opportunities to do things because years and years went past and it wasn't happening for them. They all could have given up but that still died for these rights and we as blacks are throwing them away. My race identity is exactly what people think of us now because what we are nowhere close to what we should be known for and that's grateful for everything that's here for us.

The only experiences that I have been through are how people still fear us because of the actions we bring upon ourselves. No one really sees what happens, and witnesses the real things, why we are like this but they assume because of television and other races do not know what to expect when they are faces with the reality of us. Other races don't want to take that chance of letting their guards down and the possibility of getting ran over.

Our lives are similar because just as blacks were fighting for their rights, the Hispanics were fights for their lives hoping that other countries will not take over theirs. I also understand that we are both minorities in this world and will always be because our races were not started here. Blacks are slightly larger than the Hispanics here because we were here first and they came here for better opportunities

"How It Feels to Be Colored Me" Zora Neale Hurston

I label myself as an American that was born in the United States of America. I don't believe in racism, there is no reason for being racist. We are all one as every human being should think. I understand that we all have different races but I don't believe people should be down graded from where they come from, or from the flip side the rich races should not be upgraded and treated with royalty. I also want to label myself as equal, fair to be treated fair just like the person beside me.

I look at myself as a person that is finally getting the opportunity that our race has fought for. I still walk around and be reminded of my race because of other races how I am out and people hold on to there spouses or their belongings because people are so stereotypical about African Americans and thinking that we are all the same. I can not so much as blame them because we are to blame to for our actions. It's not right for people to judge us but most others don't know but what they see on TV and a lot of people are scared and are being safe because no one wants to take any chances. there are some situations when we treated and talked to like we are still children because most don't think we have the ability to learn quickly, and that also upsets all of us because we are not even given a chance before we are degraded.

There is not much to compare because I do agree with everything not being the same. A lot has gotten better as far as equality is concerned, like she was giving performances to the whites and they would throw silver at her like she wasn't nothing but she didn't understand because she was younger and she didn't understand what was going on. Now and days people just look at you funny and do not give you the respect you deserve. I know everything is not perfect now but it's getting better and it will continue to get better, and I acknowledge the things that Zora Neale Hurston had to go just to make it easier for people like me to make in this world and be treated fairly

"Rite of Passage" Anthony Brandt (p.124)

1.) What do you remember of your own grandparent or another elderly person of importance to your family?

My memory of my grandparents was when my father stayed with them and my sister and I use to come over to spend the weekend there with my other cousins. I loved the way they always argued all the time over simple things, but the best part was when they use to give us dollars a piece and wait around for the ice cream truck to drive around the block and my grandpa would whistle really loud to stop the ice cream man. They would tell us to put them in the freezer until we eat dinner. We would rush to eat our food to get our ice cream and my grandma would always offer us to eat more then she would convince us to eat more so we always fell in the trap and ended up eating more than we wanted. I really love my grandparents because i believe thy are the best thing that could happen to our family that we can remember.

We as our age of kids, we really thought that our grandparents were the starters of the family and they were the ones that created the people that are around us now. Now that I think about it, we can really say that, because when they were born they didnt have to continue this family tree as we call it but they did and I really thank them for being them, and choices they made to bringing me my father or on the other side bringing me my mother. I believe everyone should acknowledge tthe greatness they have done for us because without them there would be no us, and I greatly appreciate that.

As I got older I lost touch with them my father side of the family because I really wasn't on good terms with my dad. I still think about them everyday, because I know they not gone be around for long and I would love to be back close with them before that time comes because we all know it will just don't know the time but not just for grandparents, i would want that anybody to reconnect with the one that they love, not just about lost contact but for whoever you had a big misunderstanding with. I can really careless about what people argue, its not worth losing your loved ones over.

My Ideas about Task One

I think I am going to write about my experience, when  my family and I had our first apartment and we didnt have much but we still made it through some of the toughest times. I want to write about this significant place because this place has defined my entire life and the way I am now. In this story I will be talkin about how my childhood wasn"t easy but I still manged to make it, because there was certain times that I did want to give up and just fall into the wrong crowd and also much worse that has been done and what could have been done. Certain problems I think may arise for my task one is my rambling on about things that will happen in the story, but other than me getting off subject by not focusing on supporting my thesis I should be ok with the paper. . I anticipate that I will do my best and the problem that I have told u about will be gone when I learn to find somthing that can keep me occupied. I know this because I want to see a great outcome for the work that I put into this assignment, and plus talking about my experiences can be interesting to just have all the past come back to me my memory. I really do have a big problem with not focusing on my assignment because I do get easily distracted and maybe not this task, but Im pretty sure one of my other  tasks I will end up using my extention, I really want to work on that, but I just wanted to be honest up front that I do have that problem. I have no question about task one but just to have fun and enjoy the rememberance of my past.

Intorduction to me

Hello my name is arion Duncan, I am 19 years old. I was born and raised in Kansas City, MO. I went to Woodland Elementary school, follwed by Urban Community Leadership Academy (UCLA) charter/middle school. My high school years were divided by two different schools because of me having to move in between times. I first went to Northeast high schoolmy freshman and sophmore year. By my junior year i had to move to North Kansas City which is also known as the Northland of Missouri. My final two years of high school i attended Parkhill high school. That was the roughest time I ever had to go through beacuse transitioning from a non-creditation school to one of the best public schools in the state of Missouritook a big toll on me. High school was the hardest years because i felt like I couldn't fit in. I didnt know any of the requirements that i was suppose to hav learned by my junior to move on and be caught up. The main reason why I thought it was so hardbecause I had to go back and learn what I missed freshman and sophmore year and still try to learn what was in my junior classes at the same time. I toughed it all out, I mean there was those times when I felt like giving up but i stuck it through and going into my senior year it was time for me to wrap up and to see what i was going to after school, and still trying to finish up what was left for me to do in my final months of highschool. At the end i walkedthe stage and before my eyes I sawthat all of my hard work has paid off. Now I bet you wondering how did I get here to Missouri Westrern State University. Well I was lucky enough to have both my older sisters Ebony and Ivory to go here and graduate. They are doin well for themselves and all I want to do is follow in there footsteps and see where my college life will take me.
